Purchasing a Cross Trainer for your Home Gym

When it comes to home gym equipment, there are so many different options. These days, we’re not just limited to treadmills, exercise bikes and weight machines. There are so many other types of equipment, meaning that keeping fit at home is entirely possible and actually very easy.

One of the most effective pieces of equipment for the home gym is the cross trainer. Cross trainers have been available for quite some time, but it is only in recent years that they have become more popular for use in the home. The great thing about cross trainers is that they offer a lot of benefits to the user. Here are a couple of examples:

  • Get a Full Body Work Out – One of the problems that you will face with a lot of pieces of gym equipment is that they only work certain parts of the body. This is fine if there are only certain parts that you want to improve upon, but for general fitness or weight loss, you need to work everything. The good thing about a cross trainer is that it works all muscle groups.
  • Perfect for Weight Loss – If you are trying to lose weight, then a cross trainer is going to be a fantastic investment for your home gym. Because a cross trainer works all muscle groups, it is highly effective at helping you to lose weight. It can save you the time and effort of having to use multiple pieces of gym equipment and allow you to get a full workout within minutes.
  • Ideal for all Fitness Levels – The great thing about cross trainers is that it doesn’t matter if you are unfit or a fitness fanatic; you will still be able to reap the benefits from using one. Many types of fitness equipment will require you to have a certain level of fitness to be able to use them, but this is not the case with cross trainers. Whether you are new to fitness completely, or you are a fitness fanatic, you will be able to benefit from a cross trainer.

Best Home Cross Trainer

JTX Tri-Fit

Our top pick for the home gym has got to be the JTX Tri-Fit. Starting off, assembly couldn’t have been simpler. In fact, it took only one person to do so and was completed within minimal time. Upon first use, the first thing that we wanted to test was the noise level. If you have used a cross trainer before then you have probably noticed that some of them can be quite noisy. We were pleased to find out that the noise levels with this cross trainer from JTX were very low indeed.

When we first tried to use the cross trainer, we took a while to figure out the different programs. The instruction manual isn’t very precise. However, there is a lot of information available online about this cross trainer, including information about the different programs that are available. We found that after a couple of uses we were able to get our head around the programs with no difficulty at all.

One thing that we really liked about the programs is that you are able to personalise them and store the information on the system itself. This was really helpful as we were able to completely customise our work out and save it for our next session. This would also be really beneficial if you are planning to build on your fitness by increasing the intensity of your work outs over time.

A final point worth noting is the smoothness of the work out. There was no stickiness from the machine which you sometimes get with certain cross trainers. Overall, we would really recommend this cross trainer for use in the home.

Features:

  • Electro-Magnetic Resistance
  • Adjustable Stride Length of 16-20”
  • Adjustable Incline
  • 19 Work Out Programs
  • 16 Levels of Silent Magnetic Resistance
  • 17Kg Flywheel
  • Max User Weight 23.5 Stone
  • 2 Year Warranty

Best Cross Trainer under £200

JLL 2-in-1 Elliptical Cross Trainer Exercise Bike CT100

JLL are well-known for their affordable fitness equipment and they have really delivered with this 2 in 1 elliptical cross trainer. First of all, we’ll go over the assembly. It took us roughly 30 minutes to assemble the entire cross trainer fully and then it was ready to use. We had no problems with the assembly at all, it was very straight forward.

When it comes to the frame itself, it feels very sturdy and robust. We have used cross trainers in the past that have felt a little wobbly which can make intense work outs a little uncomfortable, but this wasn’t the case with this cross trainer from JLL, it feels very sturdy indeed.

The programs themselves are easy to understand and setting the customisable programs was no problem at all. One thing that we really liked about the programs is the variety – we were able to get a full body work out with varying levels of intensity which was great.

If you are working with a tight budget but you want a cross trainer for your home gym, then this JLL 2 in 1 elliptical cross trainer is a great choice.

Features:

  • Adjustable Resistance
  • Adjustable Stride Length of 16-20”
  • Adjustable Incline
  • 21 Work Out Programs
  • 16 Resistance Levels
  • 13Kg Flywheel
  • Max User Weight 110Kg
  • 12 Month Warranty

Best Cross Trainer under £300

Viavito Setry 2-in-1 Elliptical Trainer and Exercise Bike

If you have a little extra to spend on a cross trainer, then this model from Viavito is a great option. To start off with, the first thing that we really liked was the fact that this is not only a cross trainer, but also an exercise bike. This makes it perfect for use in the home gym because it saves on space – you have two machines in one.

We were really impressed with the amount of resistance levels with this elliptical cross trainer. With 32 levels of magnetic resistance, we were able to vary the intensity of our work outs massively. The backlit LCD screen was really easy to read, even during our work out, so we didn’t have to stop and start whilst adjusting the resistance and intensity.

For a mid-range cross trainer that is not going to cost you the earth, this one from Viavito is a great option to consider.

Features:

  • Adjustable Resistance
  • Adjustable Stride Length of 31.2cm
  • Adjustable Incline
  • 20 Work Out Programs
  • 32 Magnetic Resistance Levels
  • 5Kg Flywheel
  • Max User Weight 120Kg
  • 2 Year Warranty

Take a good look at all three options and see which one would work best in your home gym!
