List of 4 ways to hang heavy mirrors without nails
1. Adhesives
Adhesive mirrors are great alternatives to ordinary glass mirrors. You don't need to use nails to hang them up; stick them to the wall. This mirror is one of our favourites because it doesn't require drilling into the wall and looks like real glass.
You'll need an adhesive-backed mirror, a hammer, and some heavy-duty mounting tape. First, remove the mirror frame and lay it flat on the floor where you want to put it. Then, place the adhesive backed side down on the wall. Press firmly with the hammer. Remove the mirror from the wall and gently peel away the backing—tape over the hole. If you're planning to move the light mirror later, carefully cut out the leftover tape on walls. Otherwise, it might damage the surface of the wall.
2. Wall anchors
Wall anchors are one of those things that most people don't think about until it's too late. Many struggles to find the perfect wall anchor because they want something specific. They want a type of wall anchor that is different from another brand. But what do you need? What makes a good wall anchor?
The answer to that question depends on how much weight you plan to hang your mirror. If you're hanging a heavier mirror, you'll probably want a stronger wall anchor. On the other hand, if you're hanging a smaller mirror, you might want a lighter wall anchor.
If you're unsure whether you need a heavier or lighter wall anchor, check out our guide to choosing a wall anchor. You'll learn some important information, like measuring the thickness of your walls and determining the best size for your massive mirror.
You'll also discover why you should consider buying a wall anchor online versus picking up a store-bought version. This way, you can ensure you buy the right wall anchor for your needs.
3. Toggle bolts
A toggle bolt is a great way to hang heavy mirrors without drilling holes into your walls. This type of hardware is typically used for hanging large weighty mirror brackets over beds and dressers. A toggle bolt works best for larger items because it spreads apart once it reaches the desired distance.
The toggle bolt consists of a nut, a washer, and a bolt. The nut is threaded onto the end of the bolt while the washer sits on top of the nut. To use a toggle bolt, insert it into the hole drilled in your wall and tighten the nut. When the bolt meets the washer, it expands outward and creates a secure hold. You can add a weight limit to the bolt by adding a stone or brick to the bottom of the washer.
4. Drywall Hooks
The drywall hook is the latest innovation in the world of home improvement. This handy tool allows you to hang things like mirrors without drilling, pictures, and even light fixtures directly onto your drywall. It works much like toggle bolts, but there are some differences.
You screw your hook into the wall and then twist it to lock it securely. Once you're done, you can move it around freely, but it won't come out unless you unscrew it.
If you want to take down your mirror or picture, you'll need to unhook it and pull it off. And you don't necessarily need to drill holes in your walls to install one. Make sure your plaster is solid enough to support the weight of whatever you plan to hang.
Is it possible to hang mirrors with Velcro?
If you don't want to drill any new holes into your wall, then you can use Velcro instead. You don't need to drill any new holes for hanging anything onto your wall because you can stick Velcro onto the backside of whatever you're trying to hang.
First, attach one end of the Velcro to a flat surface (such as the backside of a door) and then attach the other end of the Velcro to the back of the glass. Then place the glass so it is flush with the surface and presses down firmly for at least a minute; wait until the adhesive has formed a strong bond between the glass and the surface before removing it from the surface.
Velcros are comparable to command strips because these fastening devices contain a strong adhesive.
Is it possible to hang mirrors with command strips?
Command strips are one of those products that people love to hate. They're cheap, easy to install, and they look great. But do they work? If you've ever tried to hang a mirrored surface like a picture frame, you know how hard it is to keep it straight without having something holding it up. So what happens when you try to mount a mirror onto a wall covered in plasterboard? You'll probably end up with serious damage if you don't take precautions.
If you plan to mount a heavy mirror onto a wall, you must know how to apply the 3-meter Command strip correctly. This is what we did to install our mirror in our living room. We used Command strips to attach the mirror to the wall.
We bought the regular-size Command strips of tape with small and large ones. These strips measure 2 meters long and can be cut into smaller lengths depending on the size of the mirror that you want to place on the wall.
The package includes some adhesive double-sided tape and the necessary tools. To ensure everything goes smoothly, it's best to follow the instructions carefully.
First, measure the double-sided mounting tape to size and mark the exact position where you want the mirror to hang. Then, double-check the distance between the wall and the mirror. Ensure you don't put too much pressure on the strips while applying them to the wall. Otherwise, you risk damaging the surface.
Next, start cutting off the excess length of the strips. Once you've got the correct length, peel away the protective film and stick them to the wall.
You'll notice that the strips won't stick directly to the wall. Instead, they're attached to a backing sheet. This way, you can move around the strips without worrying about falling.
Once you've applied all the strips, you'll need to wait 24 hours before hanging the mirror because there is a slight chance that you may find a broken mirror overnight. During this period, the strips will dry out and become stronger. They'll hold up better against the weight of the mirror.
Afterwards, you can adjust the height of the mirror by moving the strips. If you need to change the mirror's location, you can pull the strips apart and reapply them to another part of the wall.
